Post subject:  Window Flashing - Sill Tray - Packing window

Hi Mick,

I've watched your videos on window sill flashing and still have some questions if you wouldn't mind helping me out. I understand the process for attaching the plastic material to the window sill to form a sill tray, this is fairly straighforward, but I still have a few things I don't understand.

1. If there is no rebate on the inside of the window sill for the flashing to be stapled into, do you just staple it to the flat piece without a rebate and then what happens when the internal architrave goes one, won't that be raise slightly?
2. How much should the sill tray hang out from the outside edge of the window?
3. When installing the window into the house frame and packing it level, do the packers sit under the plastic sill tray or between the sill tray and the window sill (wood)?
4. If the external cladding is going to be weatherboards, does the sill tray need to have access to the outside of the weatherboards or can it be folded down behind them? Any pics or diagrams of this would be excellent.

Thanks and I look forward to your excellent advice.

Mat.
